While last Christmas saw the Marvel Cinematic Universe pushing Clint Barton into the limelight in the heartfelt, emotional and fun Hawkeye as he teamed up with young archer Kate Bishop to tie up loose ends from his stint as the Ronin and unravel a complex and deadly mystery, this spring will take the universe into an entirely new and previously unseen direction with Moon Knight.
In the comics, Moon Knight is better known as one of the more morally ambiguous vigilantes New York City has to offer. Prior to dedicating his life to protect innocents as a vigilante, Marc Spector was a mercenary who was brought back to life by the Egyptian god Khonshu. Moon Knight developed a loyal following of fans, drawn in by the rich history and themes found in each run, the character having dissociative identity disorder (DID), and his struggles with faith as a Jewish man working as an agent of another god.
The MCU’s adaptation promises a darker adventure than perhaps most Marvel fans come to expect from the franchise (unless you happen to be familiar with any of the Netflix series), and looks to lean hard into the supernatural elements that can be found in the comic too - making this the first of three Marvel titles to be released this year that promises to be a spooky ride, the other two being Morbius and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Moon Knight is set to premiere March 30th on Disney+ and stars Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy, with the rating TV-14.
