We all have our favorite television shows that were cut short after a single season for one reason or another. There have been shows that started online petitions from fans and others have inspired cult followings that are as popular today as they were when they first aired. Here are ten of my favorites.
Selfie
Starring Karen Gillan, John Cho, Da'Vine Joy, and David Harewood. In 2014 we were introduced to Eliza Dooley who after suffering a humiliating moment on a business trip with her colleagues realizes that having followers is not the same as having friends. Eliza begs a coworker to "rebrand" her so she is more likable and can become friends with her colleagues. Always up for a challenge, Henry takes on the task and they develop an unlikely friendship and learn a lot from each other.
Birds of Prey
In 2002 we were introduced to the Birds of Prey. The show featured an outstanding cast including Rachel Skarsten, Ashley Scott, Dina Meyer, Mia Sara, and Shemar Moore. The show takes place following the Joker's worst attack on Batman. The night he attacks Batgirl leaving her in a wheelchair and killing Catwoman in front of her daughter. As Barbara redefines herself as Oracle, she takes in Catwoman's daughter who eventually becomes Huntress. Their lives are turned upside down when a young runaway named Dinah appears and Oracle discovers that she has metahuman powers. Barbara and Huntress take her in and train her to use the power that she possesses and together they fight crime.
The Lone Gunmen
Sadly, The Lone Gunmen was a short-lived spinoff of the X-Files. Starring Dean Haglund, Tom Braidwood, and Bruce Harwood. Our favorite conspiracy theorists are about to close down their paper when Jimmy appears and offers to back them financially and becomes part of the team.
Freaky Links
Derek Barnes takes over his brother Adam paranormal research website when Adam dies unexpectedly. With the help of his friends, they investigate urban legends and try to solve what happened to Adam in the month's leading up to his death. Freaky Links was one of the best shows that ever aired. Starring; Ethan Embry, Karim Prince, Lisa Sheridan, and Lizette Carrian.
Firefly
Space western with a cult following. Firefly is set in 2517 the crew is desperate to survive in a world that mirrors the Old West and will do pretty much anything that is guaranteed to ensure their survival. Starring; Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, Gina Torres, Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk, Sean Mahr, and Ron Glass.
Bunheads
A great show that was canceled after just one season by the network and managed to rack up an impressive amount of awards after being canceled. The show follows a Las Vegas showgirl who marries a man that comes to a show. They drive back to where he lives with his mother, a dance teacher in a small town. What should have been a beautiful new start turns tragic when her new husband is killed in a car accident. Michelle decides to stay and offers to help her mother in law run the dance studio. Starring; Sutton Foster, Kelly Bishop, Julia Goldani Telles, Bailey DeYoung, and Kaitlyn Jenkins.
Secret Circle
After the death of her mother, Cassie goes to live with her grandmother. When she arrives in her new home town she is given a fresh start with new friends. Her new friends tell her that she is a powerful witch and they have been waiting for her to complete their circle. Cassie discovers her new friends are telling her the truth when she discovers her mother's old spell book in her grandmother's house.
Staring; Brit Robertson, Louis Hunter, Phoebe Tonkin, Shelley Hennig, Thomas Dekker, Jessica Parker Kennedy, and Natasha Henstridge.
Nine Lives of Chloe King
On her 16th birthday, Chloe starts to develop unnatural abilities that she can't explain and discovers that she is part of an ancient race. Unfortunately, when her abilities start to develop she is no longer hidden from the assailants who are trying to wipe out her and her ancient race. Chloe is fighting for her life and learning how to use her gifts at the same time. An amazing show that was canceled way too soon.
Starring; Skyler Samuels, Benjamin Stone, Grace Phipps, Amy Pietz, Ki Hong Lee, Alyssa Diaz, and Grey Damon.
Constantine
In 2014 we were introduced to Constantine the tv series. Starring; Matt Ryan, Angelica Celaya, and Charles Halford. Constantine, the so-called"Master of the Dark Arts" is pulled out of retirement to protect the daughter of one of his friends who died. With some help from Chas and Zed, the trio set out to battle demons.
Top of the Heap
A short-lived spinoff of Married with Children. Top of the Heap was a comedy show on Fox that followed the life of the manager of a run-down apartment complex who was desperate to have his son marry into money. Starring; Matt LeBlanc, Joey Lauren Adams, and Joseph Bologna.
